about tatiana:

Your clothing starts a visual dialog with those around you, whether you want it or not. Which means that wearing whatever expresses the 'me' in you, be it only for the current moment, is a key to having a meaningful exchange with the surrounding world. I find it a hard task with mass produced clothing, even the nicest of them - since there are no two people exactly alike, why should they wear exactly the same thing? This thought convinced me of the necessity to create individual pieces which will speak to each person in a secret languange understandable only to the two of them - until they meet.

My approach to clothing design is hugely influenced by my fine art background – each piece is one-of-a-kind, created without a preset pattern, in its own right, for the size that I see as a perfect size for a particular design. Although I do of course have signature looks and designs, I do not make exact same piece twice, or make multiple sizes of the same design, nor do I buy fabrics in bulk – so each piece is unique, just like you wouldn't want multiples of the same painting. All pieces are also sequentially numbered, like works of art which I consider them to be.

Texture is my number one love. I see beauty in all kinds of texture, including the natural unweaving and stretching of the fabric – which is why I almost always let texture show along the edges, connect seams on the outer side when appropriate as opposed to having them hidden, and tear fabric instead of neatly cutting it. That, too, gives each piece its individuality and special charm. Any accents like that are an integral part of the design and should not be considered irregularities.

I enjoy working with different mediums and styles – be it texturing silk, or hand painting fabric, or knitting – and the selection of each depends on current inspiration, new acquisitions of materials, weather outside, maybe a play I have seen which created a certain mood, or a dream that I had which had an intriguing color. I put total trust in my inspiration and always let it take me with it to produce each time a unique piece which I will not duplicate for that particular reason: I will never have the same inspiration again.

There are plenty of styles for you to choose from: avant-garde asymmetrical textured silks, produced with the use of the ancient Japanese method, shibori, which literally 'live' on you when you walk by bouncing up and down in the pleats; kind of hippie-Bohemian-cozy-funky knitted items ranging from sweaters to evening dresses; comfortable boxy free-size tunics for everyday wear, ranging in design from ultramodern to Bohemian; scarves and sashes, to add an artful touch to any style; just comfortable, simple chic pieces for career or more conservative occasions that are handmade and unique and will put you apart from those who wear mass-produced clothes; and, of course, necklaces and other accessories.

So, be yourself, find yourself, express yourself, make art part of your daily life, and if I can help you on this road, it will be my biggest reward.
